The people of antiquity are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the modern artist. The characters are often mythical. But the Amazons are as much a part of that world as Julius Caesar and Queen Cleopatra. Perseus and Andromeda speak to us in tales as do Cicero and Tacitus.
These works are produced in a classical form, not in the subjects’ cultural style. Rather as a Roman or Renaissance sculptor may have rendered them.
